Transformation training gets to be accessible for every leader who wants it.

How did the Starfish Leaders begin?

During 2020, our whole world started to shift in a way none of us were prepared for. We were face to face with a global pandemic and reminded of the systemic racism and inequalities that underpin our country. As a community committed to personal transformation, it was time to build sustainable, inclusive access to and support to transformation programs for Black, Indigenous and other People of Color (BIPOC).

What is a transformation program?

Transformation programs are designed as experiential trainings involving small groups, workshops and focused personalized coaching. The trainings help participants identify goals and support the achievement of those goals by generating breakthroughs in relationship skills as well as professional skills. The programs are focused on the development of responsible leaders and a service-driven life.

If you are unfamiliar with the “Starfish Story” or just need a reminder, it goes like this:

The tide was heading out to sea and a young child noticed miles of starfish stuck on the beach. One by one, the child started picking up the starfish and throwing them back into the ocean. An older man asked the child “what are you doing”, “there are thousands, you’ll never get to them all”, “what is the point”? Without a pause the young child picked up another starfish and said “I made a difference for that one”.

HOW IT WORKS

  • The Starfish Leaders currently supports grants for a leadership and personal development program called the Atlas Project. We will be adding more programs. As we grow we ask you to share other programs you would like to see supported by the Starfish Leaders.

  • PROJECT 1: ATLAS PROJECT

    • Recipient identifies as Black, Indigenous or other Person of Color

    • There is a request for financial support

    • Recipient commits to completing the program

    • 50% of the tuition is paid by the recipient before a grant is awarded

    • Commitment to aid in the growth of The Starfish Leaders Program

  • The grant is between $500 - $1,000 and is paid directly to the program.

All funds are designed to reduce the logistic and cost barriers of this type of training.
